Hybrid capture, used by myBaits, applies biotinylated RNA baits to pull down complementary genomic fragments from a sheared library. The approach enables flexible panel design and uniform coverage across large or complex targets. Amplicon-based sequencing uses PCR primers to amplify specific loci before sequencing. Amplicon approaches are faster and cheaper for small fixed panels. They show primer-binding biases and cannot easily detect large insertions or deletions.

Targeted Sequencing Panels and Exome Capture Kits
myBaits hybrid capture kits for targeted sequencing panels on any NGS platform
myBaits hybrid capture kits from Arbor Biosciences concentrate your sequencing reads on the genomic regions that matter, cutting the cost of whole-genome depth for targeted questions. The kits use biotinylated RNA baits to pull down library fragments from your sample before sequencing. The result is high, even coverage across custom or expert-designed target panels for you, spanning plant, vertebrate, microbial and pathogen genomes as well as human applications.
Expert panels ship from stock and cover the targets you need most. Plant and crop panels cover wheat and other angiosperm loci for you. Vertebrate ultraconserved element (UCE) panels support phylogenetics, and dedicated panels cover mitochondrial genomes and whole genome enrichment from metagenomic samples. Respiratory virus panels with selectable modules, including SARS-CoV-2, are ready to order, alongside cancer-focused designs such as the Onconome panel for sequencing exons from hundreds of human cancer-related genes.
Community panels, contributed by researchers, cover microbial and metagenomic targets that matter to you, such as resistance genes and specific pathogens. The myBaits Microbial Collection extends this range for your workflow. It offers predesigned panels for major bacteria, viruses and parasites, enriching whole pathogen genomes directly from your host or environmental samples.
Custom myBaits designs remain available for non-standard targets, organisms or pathogen genomes. Arbor Biosciences tunes the bait pool to your target list and complexity, with complimentary design assistance from their scientists. A paired Library Prep Kit for myBaits supplies you with reagents for both the pre-capture library step and the post-capture amplification.
Deciding on the right panel, in order
1. Standard panel, community panel or custom design. Expert panels covering plant, vertebrate, virus, cancer, and other defined research targets are available as predesigned kits. Full human exome and other non-standard target sets can be addressed with custom designs. Community panels, designed by researchers for e.g. microbial and metagenomic targets, are also available ready to order. For non-standard organisms, custom loci or pathogen genomes outside Expert or Community panels, a custom myBaits design covers you. Pricing scales with bait count and target complexity.
2. Target type. The right panel depends on your target type. Plant or crop genomics: an Expert Wheat Exome, Angiosperms 353, or Compositae panel. Phylogenetics and conservation: an Expert UCE panel. Mitochondrial or organelle sequencing: the Expert Mito panel. Pathogen or microbial genomes in complex samples: an Expert Respiratory Virus, panel with the appropriate module(s), including SARS-CoV-2 where relevant, or custom pathogen design. Coding regions and exons: an Expert exome or Onconome panel.
3. Species and organism. Plant, vertebrate, viral and microbial targets are covered by organism-specific Expert panels for your project. Human cancer-related exons are covered by the dedicated Expert Onconome panel; human and mouse exome projects can be addressed with custom designs. Custom designs are available for any reference sequence you provide.
4. NGS platform. myBaits kits are open-platform and compatible with your short-read (Illumina, Ion Torrent) and long-read (PacBio, Nanopore) library formats. Confirming the sequencing platform before you order ensures the correct adapter chemistry is used in the library prep step.

Frequently asked questions
Depth requirements depend on the allele frequency being targeted. Germline variant detection in diploid samples typically needs 100 to 200x mean coverage. Somatic variant calling in tumour tissue or liquid biopsy requires 500x to over 10,000x depending on expected variant allele frequency. Unique molecular identifiers (UMIs) enable error correction at high depth, improving sensitivity for rare variants.
Yes. Arbor Biosciences designs custom myBaits panels against any reference sequence you provide, with complimentary bait design and project development assistance. Contact BioCat for a quote. Pricing depends on the number of baits and target complexity.
myBaits kits are compatible with many PCR-amplified or amplifiable NGS library types and can be used for short- and long-read workflows, including Illumina, Ion Torrent, PacBio, and Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Confirm adapter chemistry compatibility with your library prep method before ordering.
