Exosome isolation kits for serum, plasma, urine and conditioned media, without ultracentrifugation
The isolation method you choose sets your purity, throughput and downstream assay in a single workflow step, and this range covers three technology routes for serum, plasma, urine and conditioned media. Polymer precipitation uses the ExoQuick family, including ExoQuick and ExoQuick-TC for plasma, serum, ascites or tissue culture media, with ExoQuick UltraPure variants adding a column clean-up step that cuts albumin and immunoglobulin carryover for proteomics work. Size-exclusion chromatography with proprietary contaminant trapping uses the SmartSEC variants, where affinity groups in the bead core capture small protein impurities such as albumin and IgG up to around 400 kDa while EVs elute in a single, concentrated fraction. Silicon carbide column purification is available through Norgen Biotek kits.
Pick method by purity needs.
- Polymer precipitation. Fastest, highest yield. Co-precipitates non-EV proteins. Best for RNA-seq and qPCR downstream.
- Size-exclusion. Cleaner preparations at lower yield. Preferred for downstream proteomics.
- Ultracentrifugation. Academic gold standard. Slow and equipment-intensive.
- Immunoaffinity. Sub-population specificity (CD9, CD63, CD81 selection). Lower yield, highest specificity.
- Sample type. Serum and plasma need dedicated chemistry for abundant proteins.
- Characterisation. For publication-grade work confirm by Western for CD9, CD63, CD81, plus TSG101 or ALIX, plus NTA size distribution.
