Standard Sequence Pricing

All prices are per-sequence, inclusive of sequence verification. No setup fees. No minimum order. No charges added after your quote is confirmed.

Sequence Type

Length

Price

Standard gene  Up to 500 bp Fixed: EUR 110
 Standard gene  501 - 3,000 bp EUR 0.22/bp
 Standard gene  3,001 - 5,000 bp EUR 0.29/bp
Gene fragments Up to 2,000 bp From EUR 93
Complex sequences  All lengths  Quoted individually
10+ gene projects  Any  Volume pricing available

Gene fragments up to 2,000 bp: from EUR 93. Note that in some cases, fragment pricing may be comparable to or higher than full gene synthesis with cloning. Contact us for a fragment-specific quote.

Complex sequences: quoted individually after a free feasibility review by a PhD scientist. Price is confirmed in writing before synthesis begins.

Custom vectors: charges apply for both onboarding and subsequent uses. Standard vectors from our library of 161 options are included at no extra cost.

Projects of 10 or more sequences: volume pricing available. Submit your project list for a consolidated quote.

What We Handle

BioCat gene synthesis is set up to work with sequences that fall outside standard parameters:

What Is Included at No Extra Charge

Every BioCat gene synthesis order includes the following without additional fees:

  • Full sequence verification by Sanger sequencing (partial sequencing for custom vector inserts unless full sequencing is requested)
  • Codon optimization for your target expression organism, on request
  • Cloning into your choice from our 161-vector library
  • Restriction site analysis and adjustment on request
  • Pre-synthesis sequence assessment for complex constructs
  • Access to technical support throughout your order

Free codon optimization is a concrete saving that is often significant. Comparable services from other providers are either billable or require manual negotiation. With BioCat, it is always available at no cost when needed.

Multi-Gene Projects and Volume Orders

Labs running 10 or more gene synthesis orders benefit from consolidated project pricing. This is particularly relevant for:

  • Protein variant libraries and systematic mutagenesis projects
  • Multi-construct screening campaigns
  • Annual lab supply agreements where synthesis needs are predictable
  • Grant-funded projects with defined construct lists

Volume quotes are issued as a single project document, suitable for inclusion in grant applications and budget justifications. Contact us with your construct list and we will respond within one business day.

The Real Cost of Gene Synthesis Is Not Just the Invoice

When evaluating synthesis providers, the list price per base pair is only part of the calculation. Labs that have switched providers for price reasons often discover that the total cost of a failed or delayed order exceeds the savings.

Factors that add to real cost:

  • Complexity surcharges added at checkout after automated screening flags your sequence
  • Re-ordering and re-sequencing when quality control misses errors in delivered constructs
  • Researcher time spent chasing updates, troubleshooting wrong constructs, and redesigning sequences

With our transparent upfront quoting and free feasibility assessment, there are no hidden costs when you order from BioCat.

Using BioCat Synthesis in Grant Applications

If you are budgeting for gene synthesis as part of a grant application, the following language may be useful as a starting point:

"Gene synthesis will be outsourced to BioCat GmbH (Heidelberg, Germany). Standard sequences are priced at EUR 0.22/bp (501-3,000 bp) or EUR 0.29/bp (3,001-5,000 bp), inclusive of codon optimization on request, cloning into expression vector, and sequence verification. Complex sequences are quoted individually following a free technical feasibility review. Volume discounts apply to projects of 10 or more sequences."

Request Gene Synthesis

Please enter your sequence information and personal data. Upon receipt of your synthesis request, we will check your sequence and send you a detailed quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the highest GC content you can synthesize?
We do not apply a hard cut-off. Sequences with GC content up to approximately 80% are routinely synthesized. Above that threshold, feasibility depends on the specific sequence context. Submit your sequence and a scientist will assess it, typically within one business day.
Can you make genes with tandem repeats?

In most cases, yes. Tandem repeats increase synthesis complexity and cost, and this will be reflected in your quote. Where direct synthesis is not the optimal approach, we will propose alternatives such as gene splitting or sequence adjustment before you commit.

Do you reject complex sequences like other providers?

We review every complex sequence before quoting rather than accepting orders and cancelling them weeks later. In some cases, synthesis is not feasible and we will tell you that upfront with an explanation and proposed alternatives. We aim to give you a clear position before you commit, not after.

Can you synthesize high-GC content genes?

Yes. We routinely synthesize sequences with GC content up to approximately 80%, and in some cases beyond that. Highly challenging sequences may incur a higher quoted price due to increased process complexity, and this will be communicated clearly before the order is confirmed.

What if my gene fails during synthesis? Do I pay?

If synthesis cannot be completed, there is no charge. Any exceptions are communicated in your quote before the order is confirmed. We never add any additional fees without our customers' approval.

How do I know if my sequence is too difficult?

Submit it. Our scientists evaluate sequences based on GC content, repeat density, predicted secondary structures, and length. You will receive a written assessment, typically within one business day. There is no charge for this review.
