Picking the wrong protein format can cost you a repeat experiment. Native formats preserve physiological post-translational modifications and isoforms, while recombinant formats give consistent batch-to-batch composition and scalable production. Native proteins suit work where post-translational modifications and isoforms need to represent physiological conditions, and recombinant proteins suit projects that need tag-ready material that scales reliably. These proteins support cell culture stimulation, functional assays, structural studies, and biochemical characterisation, spanning cytokines, growth factors, transcription factors, signalling proteins, and native proteins across human, mouse, rat, and other species.
Five decisions, in order.
- Expression system. For biologically active mammalian protein with correct glycosylation choose HEK293 or CHO. For high-yield protein where glycosylation does not matter choose E. coli. Baculovirus sits between the two.
- Tag. His-tag is the routine default. For stringent IP use FLAG or HA. For binding-affinity work prefer tag-cleaved formats.
- Purity. For ELISA standards use assay-grade (above 98 percent). For Western controls research-grade (above 95 percent) is enough. For therapeutic work use GMP-grade.
- Endotoxin. For cell-based functional assays must be under 1 EU per microgram. Many E. coli-expressed proteins need depletion.
- Species match. Match protein source to your antibody pair (for ELISA) or model organism.
