Direct PCR

Direct PCR enzymes for amplification straight from unpurified tissue and colony samples

When you do not want to purify DNA before PCR, direct-PCR enzymes amplify from minimally processed samples: mouse tail or ear punch, leaf disc, blood spot, bacterial colony. The inhibitor-resistant polymerase formulation tolerates proteinase K lysates, salts, dyes, and tissue debris. The category compresses extract-then-amplify into one tube.

Pick by sample and product length.

  1. Sample type. Match your sample (mouse tissue, plant, blood, bacterial colony, plant tissue) against the kit's validated list. Tested protocols save piloting time.
  2. Inhibitor tolerance. Some formulations handle pure proteinase K lysate. Others require dilution. Match to your lysate prep.
  3. Product length. Most direct-PCR enzymes amplify reliably to 1 to 2 kb. For longer products switch to standard purification.
  4. Loading convenience. Loading-dye-included mixes save a pipetting step. For gel-only readouts useful.
  5. High-throughput. For routine genotyping the per-sample time saving versus column-prep is 60 to 80 percent, which compounds across hundreds of weekly samples.

Meridian Life Science and Meridian (Bioline) carry sample-type-specific MyTaq and Direct PCR kits.
