| Immunogen | Immunogen was recombinant protein from human Galectin-3. This antibody was produced from a rabbit immunized with the immunogen. The IgG fraction was purified from rabbit serum followed by Protein A/G affinity chromatography. |
| Background | Galectin-3 is a member of the lectin family, of which 14 mammalian galectins have been identified. Galectin-3 is approximately 3 kDa and, like all galectins, contains a carbohydrate-recognition binding domain (CRD) of about 13 amino acids that enable the specific binding of beta-galactosides. Galectin-3 is encoded by a single gene, LGALS3, located on chromosome 14, locus q21 –q22. This protein is characterized by an N-terminal proline-rich tandem repeat domain and a single C-terminal carbohydrate recognition domain. Galectin-3/LGALS3 can self-associate through the N-terminal domain allowing it to bind to multivalent saccharide ligands. |
