Product Description
The gingiva comprises epithelial and connective tissues forming a collar of masticatory mucosa attached to both; teeth and alveolar bone. Gingival epithelium constitutes of a stratified squamous keratinized epithelium while the oral sulcular epithelium appears to be stratified and non-keratinized. Gingival epithelium consists of three regions: oral gingival epithelium (OGE), sulcular epithelium (SE) and Junctional epithelium (JE). As a special structure at dento-gingival junction, JE is different from other epitheliums (OGE, SE) in origin; as the cell morphology, proliferation and differentiation.
Human Gingival epithelial cells (GECs) are an important tool to study interactions between periodontal pathogens such as Porphyromonas gingivalis and the host, and the consequences of this interaction for the progression of periodontal disease.
