Human tissue sections, panels, microarrays and extracts for translational research

The range covers tissue sections, tissue panels, tissue microarrays (TMAs) and tissue-related products. Working directly with material relevant to human disease bridges molecular data and clinical findings in ways that model systems cannot, so your bench results connect back to the clinic. Human tissue is the main focus, with tissue from other species available alongside it. Serum and plasma are held as well, for studies where a solid tissue sample is not practical.

Finding the right tissue product for your study

  1. Product type. Tissue sections, tissue panels, tissue microarrays (TMAs), and tissue-related products such as RNA, DNA, cDNA and protein extracted from tissue.

  2. Species. A wide range of human tissue products is available, alongside tissue from other model organisms such as mouse and rat.

  3. Organ. Tissue products are available from a range of organs, including brain, heart, kidney, liver, lung and skin, among others, to match your target tissue.

  4. Donors. Donor-specific requirements, such as pathology, age, sex or tissue quality, can be matched against current stock to fit your study design.

Applications

Biomarker discovery

Tissue microarrays presenting multiple donors on one slide let you find and characterise candidate tissue biomarkers in a systematic, spatially resolved way.

Digital spatial profiling

NanoString GeoMx and 10X Visium platforms map RNA and protein expression within your intact tissue sections, through the spatial profiling services.

Antibody validation

A physiologically relevant matrix checks antibody specificity, sensitivity, and off-target binding, complementing your primary antibody validation in cell-based systems.

Molecular profiling from extracted material

RNA, DNA, cDNA, and protein extracted from tissue feed your genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic quantification workflows without an extra step.

Assay development and validation

Reliable, well-characterised reference material and documented donor metadata let you optimise and qualify your tissue-based analytical assays.

Liquid biopsy research

Serum and plasma samples support circulating biomarker studies where a solid tissue sample is not practical for your project.

Frequently asked questions

What is a human biospecimen?

A human biospecimen is biological material, such as tissue, serum, plasma, or DNA, that has been collected, processed, and stored under standardised conditions. Each sample typically carries donor metadata (age, sex, diagnosis, treatment history) and a quality certificate. This makes it ready for use in research without extra pre-qualification.

How do I choose between fresh-frozen and FFPE tissue samples?

Fresh-frozen sections preserve nucleic acid integrity. They are preferred for RNA-seq, whole-exome sequencing, and proteomics. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) sections offer long-term archival stability and are standard for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridisation. RNA quality is lower in FFPE sections, so it requires FFPE-specific extraction methods.

What documentation comes with research tissue samples?

Quality human specimens come with a certificate of analysis. This states the collection protocol, processing time, storage temperature, and QC metrics, such as RIN score for RNA or haemolysis index for serum. Ethical provenance documentation confirming informed consent and IRB approval should also be provided.

Can serum and plasma samples be used interchangeably?

Not always. Serum is collected after clotting and lacks fibrinogen and clotting factors, which makes it preferred for antibody-based assays. Plasma retains these proteins, so it suits coagulation studies and some cytokine panels better. Many analytes, including most metabolites and miRNAs, are detectable in both. However, reference ranges differ between them.
