Packaging cell lines for producing lentiviral and retroviral vectors

Packaging cell lines express the structural and enzymatic components needed to produce viral particles, such as lentiviral or retroviral vectors, when transfected with the appropriate plasmid set. You use them to generate viral stocks for applications including stable gene delivery, CRISPR construct delivery, or shRNA-mediated knockdown, without having to source each packaging component separately. Because the packaging genes are stably integrated or maintained within the line, virus production is more consistent between preparations. Selection of an appropriate packaging line depends on the vector system and the target cell type for downstream transduction.
