myTXTL cell-free expression systems for rapid protein synthesis from DNA or RNA templates
When you need protein in hours rather than days and want to skip bacterial transformation and overnight growth, myTXTL E. coli extract transcribes and translates from DNA or RNA template in the tube. Useful for synthetic biology prototyping, toxic-protein expression, codon-optimisation testing, and parallel small-scale reactions.
Pick by template and yield.
- Template format. Linear PCR product fastest. Plasmid templates more reproducible.
- Yield. Cell-free produces micrograms per reaction. For milligrams switch to cell-based expression.
- Post-translational modifications. E. coli extract gives no mammalian glycosylation, no disulfide bonds without supplementation. For PTM-dependent proteins choose mammalian cell-free or cell-based.
- Time. Cell-free completes in 4 to 8 hours. Bacterial expression needs 2 to 3 days minimum.
- Use case. Prototype with cell-free; switch to cell-based for production.
