Cell counting slides, viability dyes, and calibration tools for accurate cell counts
When you need accurate cell counts and viability discrimination, this section covers the consumables. Counting slides, calibration beads, viability dyes (trypan blue, acridine orange, propidium iodide), and validation tools support automated and manual counting.
Pick by counter and viability needs.
- Manual hemocytometer. Standard trypan blue for live-dead by exclusion.
- Automated counter slides. Match slide to instrument (LUNA, Countess, NucleoCounter each have specific slide formats).
- Viability dye. For live-dead by exclusion use trypan blue. For fluorescence-based use acridine orange plus PI. For live-only use calcein.
- Debris-rich samples. Fluorescence-based counters discriminate live from dead more accurately than trypan blue.
- Calibration. Use validation beads to confirm counter accuracy at the start of each session.
